007 And The Search For A Minister
Not many people know this; but if information given to me by someone who claim’s to know the President as a younger man is to be believed, then our country really has a tough guy Presiding over it’s affair’s.
As the friend told me, our President’s favourite past time novel was reading Hardly Chase’s novels. As he told me, the novel by James Hardley Chase that our President has not read is the one not yet written. So it follow’s that our President must have read title’s like “Come easy, Go away”, “Win some, Lose some”. According to this profiler, President Yar’Adua is a consumate reader of detective and spy stories. He told me that the President’s nickname as a Chemistry teacher is 007.
He said this is because he had a tough mien which booked no-nonsense. According to him, Yar’Adua as a young man has a way of always being one up as anyone and in any situation.
But today I’m not going to bore you about our President tendency as a youth. My wish today is to tell you about my prayer that our President still has a little of his “spymaster” tendencies with him now that he is President. My view is that he really know’s about the advantage’s Sport can give his administration in achieving his goal’s of National Development and Social Integration; he would not hesitate to sit and choose a ‘correct’ Sport Minister for us.
I have gone through the list of possible Minister’s submitted to the Senate for consideration. And not one of them has any information on his Bio data to show as ‘tendency ‘toward’s Sport. Even the person currently being speculated as possible Minister of Sport, Alhaji Sanni Mohammed Ndanusa does not have any link to Sports published in his ‘official’ bio data. What we are told is that he has an MSC Degree in Waste management. That he has extensive Civil Service experience spanning two decades. We are told he is at the moment Commissioner for Transportation in Niger State. Nothing was said about the fact that he was once Chairman of Tennis Association’s in the Country.
The point to be made is that he does not see himself as having a tendency for Sports. Perhaps he just wants to be a Minister! Yet there are hundreds who would want to flaunt a C.V detailing extensive and pervasive interest in Sports.
Our President should move away from the attitude of our previous Leader’s .He should choose someone with a lot of passion and substantial knowledge about Sports as Minister. His predecessor either did not know what he could use Sports for or didn’t just care! That is, when he could have made Chief Cornelius Adebayo our Sports Minister he made him Minister for Communication. Perhaps he never knew that Adebayo coached Hockey and represented Nigeria in the Sport. There is little doubt in my mind that the President is anxious to go down in history as someone who did his best for our Nation .I believe he means well for our Country.
I want to advice him to use Sports as a tool for achieving his goal. He can use Sport to turn us into a Nation of winner’s. A Country solidified as a whole behind his desire to make Nigeria one of the 20 most developed Nation in the year 2020.
He must choose a Minister who believe we can win the World cup in 2010.And will thereafter go all out to plan for the World cup that year. He must choose a Minister whose charge will be to revamp the various Sports Association’s and get them to rekindle the flame of excellence long dead. Our President must find a way to choose a Minister who will use Sports to mobilize Nigerian’s behind a specific goal. I believe President Yar ‘Adua knows what is wrong. I also believe he knows how to effect changes. We are waiting to see him excel. I am lined up behind him like every other Nigerian patriot. He must choose for us a Sport Minister who is not representing any tribal group. He must find for us someone he knows will deliver in Sports. He should use his 007 skill’s to get us moving again.
In the 70’S we are the best in Tennis, Table tennis, Boxing, and Athletics. In 1994 we were the 5TH best Football playing Nation in the World. Now where are we?
Playing second fiddle in almost all Sports. Our Administrator’s only want to attend competition’s not planned for .They want to take from Sport not give to it.
We want 007 to help change all this by appointing the right person as Sports Minister.
