Delta Sports Commission Chieftain Kidnapped

Armed gunmen on Tuesday night struck in Asaba, as they kidnapped the secretary of the Delta Sports Commission (DSC) Workers Union Francis Omuta and started making demands for ransom.

Omuta, was at the Asaba Athletics Club where he is the club’s captain when gunmen attacked him and whisked him off.

Our correspondent gathered that the kidnappers are now demanding the sum of N5million naira from the family of the DSC boss to have him released.

The kidnapping speculations  may not be unconnected with the state election of the Amalgamated Union of Corporate Employees scheduled for Wednesday.

DSC are a member of the employees union and the chairman of the DSC’s workers union is contesting as chairman for the union. Omuta was to be the one to nominate him, while the elections were to have held on Wednesday.

As a result of the confusion, the election didn’t hold as planned.
