Nigerian Team Leads In MTN Soccer Academy

….Beats Mighty Jets of Ghana 

The seven Nigerian representatives in the MTN Soccer Academy are already showing the stuff they are made of in the ongoing competition. From their performance so far, they are living up to the sponsor’s promise of discovering reliable replacements for the Nigerian national teams. 

The seven Nigerian players who form the MTN team beat the Mighty Jets of Ghana 3-2 during the week in an entertaining match.

Scorers for the Nigerian side were Anderson Obadanteam mate number 10, Raphael Okorafor teammate number 11 and Celestine Ehiramteam mate number 12. Anderson’s goal came in the first half.

The Might Jets side had earlier defeated 3-1 the Metro team, which is made up of the seven Ghanaian representatives. 

The only goal for the Ghanaian side was scored in the first half by Daniel Opare. Also, on Friday, October 16, the 14 team mates had a historic moment at the Conference Centre in Accra as part of the crowd that witnessed the display of the FIFA World Cup trophy in Ghana. Team mates, who are being kitted by sportswear giant, Nike, also had the opportunity of snapping pictures with the trophy which was displayed under tight security. 

Activities of the academy is being aired on AIT in Nigeria and Metro TV, Ghana, while

Nigerian viewers have the opportunity of participating by voting for their

favourite team mate through the designated short code: 33118. The overall winner will have a grand prize of Hyundai Tucson 4-wheel drive car as well as a one-year football contract with a local club in Ghana or Nigeria. This is in addition to a 14-day trial with an international club and a five-star round trip to the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa, sponsored by MTN.
