NPL Begs Nnaji To Withdraw Court Case

The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) on Wednesay begged Barrister Ray Nnaji to withdraw the case he instituted at an Enugu Court last week, stopping elections into the board of the league body this week. The Nigeria Premier League had scheduled its election in Abuja yesterday and today, based on the court injunction obtained by Nnaji, who is a member of the outgoing NPL Board, the planned elections were cancelled.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its Board meeting in Abuja, the NPL urged Nnaji to withdraw the case in the interest of the nation’s elite football league.

 “In the interest of the league family, the Board appeals to Barrister Ray Nnaji to withdraw the suit instituted against the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) and also resorts to the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism to resolve the matter once and for all”, the statement said.

Furthermore, the board commended all Premier League referees for putting up an outstanding performance in the last 22 weeks and further urged them to sustain the positive tempo all through the season.

While commending the effort of the NPL Electoral Committee so far, the board also advised the committee to continue to play according to the rules to ensure hitch-free transition.

On the other hand, the board frowned at the unruly behaviour of some players and fans towards referees in the last 22 weeks of the league, and warned that such misdemeanors will no longer be tolerated, as punitive measures, including banishment and subtraction of points shall be applied.
